Food retailer Kroger has appointed Joe Kelley as senior VP of its retail divisions.

Previously the president of Colorado-based King Soopers and city markets division, Kelley has nearly 40 years of experience in executive leadership roles with retailers including Price Chopper, Stop and Shop, Star Market, and Shaws Supermarkets.

Kelley will be succeeding Kenny Kimball, who will be returning as president to the Utah-based Smith’s division.

“We are grateful for Kenny’s leadership as he stepped up to oversee multiple retail divisions in addition to Smith’s,” said Ron Sargent, chairman and CEO of Kroger.

“His commitment to our associates and customers is inspirational, and he will continue to play a key role in our enterprise, supporting strategic priorities and mentoring young leaders.”

Chris Alby was announced president of the Kings Super Division, succeeding Joe Kelley.

A part of Kroger since 1981, Alby has held several leadership positions in the company, including grocery category manager, VP of merchandising for the Michigan division and president of QFC.

Kendra Doyel was announced as president of the California and Illinois-based Food 4 Less, succeeding Bryan Kaltenbach.

Doyel has been a part of Kroger since 1998 and has held several leadership roles across Fry’s, Ralph’s and Food 4 Less.

Kaltenbach will be retiring after over 50 years in the grocery industry and 31 years at the Food 4 Less team.
