US outdoorwear brand NW Alpine collapses

Oregon-based outdoor apparel brand NW Alpine will cease operations after 15 years in business.

Founder Bill Amos confirmed the closure in a LinkedIn post, citing cash flow challenges despite modest profitability this year.

“While NW Alpine revenues have been growing significantly year-over-year and we’ve been marginally profitable, ultimately our cash situation has put us into an untenable position, perhaps the most classic way to go out of business,” he explains.

“Combine those struggles with deteriorating consumer confidence and a generally floundering outdoor industry, and after exploring many options, we’ve decided that it no longer makes sense to continue operating.”

The brand had previously closed its Oregon factory in 2022, a facility established to push domestic manufacturing.

Amos said that while local production posed challenges, it was not the sole reason for the company’s demise.

“This shouldn’t be taken as a sign that US manufacturing isn’t a viable path forward for outdoor apparel brands, simply that the sum of NWA’s parts ultimately weren’t,” he said.

“There are so many factors that go into the success of any business.”

NW Alpine will liquidate remaining inventory, beginning at full price before applying discounts, and plans to sell unused fabric stock in the coming weeks.
