Diageo-owned whisky brand Johnnie Walker has unveiled its limited edition of the Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ultra, which is described as the world’s lightest whisky bottle.
The 700ml bottle, weighing 180g, is the result of five years of experimentation and was unveiled at the London Design Festival.
Only 888 bottles will be produced, and a limited quantity will be available next year in multiple markets worldwide.
“Johnnie Walker Blue Label Ultra was born out of an ideation session looking at the future of luxury,” said global design director at Diageo, Jeremy Lindley.
“With other categories moving towards lightweight – such as eyewear and high-performance cycling – we questioned whether luxury spirits could follow suit.”
According to the company, the world’s lightest whisky bottle is part of the Diageo Spirit of Progress action plan, which aims to reduce both the weight of glass used in packaging and carbon emissions.
