Williams-Sonoma’s first quarter sales continued to see steady demand across its portfolio, with CEO Laura Alber saying the company is “off to a strong start”.

Comparable brand revenue increased 4.8 per cent in the quarter ended May 3, while operating income reached $292 million, representing an operating margin of 16.2 per cent.

“Every brand delivered a positive comp in the quarter, driven by the strength of our portfolio, our channels, and our teams,” said Alber.

Selling, general, and administrative expenses increased 5.6 per cent year over year to $502 million. The increase was mainly due to higher employment and general operating costs, partially offset by improved leverage in advertising expenses.

The company reiterated its fiscal guidance, forecasting annual net revenue growth between 2.7 per cent and 6.7 per cent, with comparable sales expected to increase between 2 per cent and 6 per cent.

Williams-Sonoma also expects its operating margin for the year to range from 17.5 per cent to 18.1 per cent.

Alber said the retailer remained focused on execution as it navigates broader macroeconomic conditions.

“We are delivering compounding results year after year despite the cyclical swings of the housing market and other macroeconomic events,” she concluded.

“We believe our strong brands, our proven ability to execute our vision, and our relentless focus on customer service will allow us to accomplish our goals in 2026 and beyond.”

The company also announced the promotion of Jennifer Kellor to president of Pottery Barn, succeeding Monica Bhargava, who is leaving the company after 26 years.

Kellor has been with the retailer for nearly three decades and previously led the Pottery Barn children’s businesses, overseeing growth across categories including baby, dorm, and teen furnishings.

“Pottery Barn’s reputation for quality, craftsmanship, and timeless design provides a strong foundation for continued growth,” Kellor said.

“I’m honored to lead the brand and remain committed to further strengthening our connection with customers through innovation, design, and exceptional service.”
