Golf apparel brand Ashworth Golf has named its founder, John Ashworth, as creative director, marking his return to the business after 27 years away.
Ashworth and Gerald Montiel launched the brand in 1987, focussing on clean, laid-back elegance and athletic performance. The company, noted for its “Golfman” logo, was acquired by the YGM Group in 2019.
“I always had a feeling that at some point, when the timing was right, I’d be back, and now here we go,” said Ashworth.
“We’ll continue to innovate, push the boundaries and create great clothing for the golf community. I’m looking forward to sharing my experience and passion with a new generation of golfers.”
John Ashworth was born in California and is a third-generation avid golfer. He developed his golf skills and went on to play college golf at the University of Arizona, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy.
The golf category is enduring some trying times as consumers tighten their belts. Last month, Topgolf Callaway Brands announced a revenue reduction for the third quarter, but management stated that the results exceeded expectations amid a “challenging macroeconomic backdrop”.
