Francesca’s seems to be moving toward a full shutdown, with plans to liquidate merchandise across its store network, according to reports from WWD.
The move follows a sudden departure of the retailer’s merchants. One source said that staff were “let go yesterday with no warning.”
A frequent customer also posted on Reddit that liquidation would begin today across all stores.
“This post is regarding Francesca’s boutiques,” she wrote. “Starting from January 16, they are going to start liquidation in all their stores. Don’t know what the sales are going to be yet, but they’re gonna be big. Come shop!”
One vendor told WWD that the liquidation is expected to include inventory that has not been paid for, adding that they are owed around $250 million in outstanding invoices.
“There has been no correspondence whatsoever from corporate to any of the vendors,” the vendor said.
The company’s website and social media channels remain operational. Its namesake store and Franki’s are still in operation.
WWD contacted Francesca’s for comment, and a customer service representative wrote in an email that “we are liquidating our inventory and closing soon.”
Founded in 1999 in Houston, Texas, Francesca’s built its business around a curated mix of women’s apparel, jewellery, accessories, and gifts, with frequently refreshed inventory.
