Beginning next month, several Walmart stores will temporarily close to test a new kind of remodeling process, which aims to provide quicker results with less customer disruption.
The locations to be renovated include Walmart Neighborhood Markets across Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, and Louisiana.
Instead of stretching a remodel over several months, the company said it is condensing the work by temporarily closing the main sales floor for four weeks and keeping pharmacies and fuel stations open.
“This is an opportunity to test, learn, and refine our remodel process to identify best practices for the future,” said Walmart.
During the remodelling, store associates will work with the renovation team to install new fixtures, organise products, and prepare the store for customers’ return.
“We want to alleviate as much customer disruption as possible and deliver a better store experience, faster,” continued the retailer.
Walmart says the sites were chosen for remodelling because there are other Walmart stores nearby, offering customers alternatives to shopping in-store or online.
Following the renovation, the retailer said stores would be “brighter and more inviting” with expanded aisles and reconfigured layouts to make the space easier to navigate.
In addition, digital price tags will be rolled out to efficiently reflect price changes or promotions.
“This test is about more than new shelves and lights,” said Walmart.
“By rethinking how we remodel our stores, we are creating a faster path to a better experience.”
