Once bitten, twice shy: Why retailers will be nervous of a Covid Christmas

As much of Europe re-enters lockdown for the second time this year, retail sales are looking more hopeful across Asia Pacific on the countdown to Christmas.  In Australia, turnover fell in food and household goods in September, but continues to trade at elevated levels compared to the same period last year.  Meanwhile in New Zealand, the latest Retail NZ Sales Index reports strong spending through October, and that total spending since March is now slightly ahead of last year.
