Southeastern Grocers Inc (SEG), the parent company of Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie, has sold its Hispanic grocery store chain Fresco y Más to Fresco Retail Group.

The divestiture was part of the definitive agreement between the two companies that was announced in August.

Anthony Hucker, president and CEO of Southeastern Grocers, said the sale marks an “important milestone” for the company on its path forward.

“We remain focused on being the most preferred grocer in the neighborhood and delivering an exceptional grocery shopping experience complete with the quality, service and value our customers and communities have come to expect.”

The firm has also entered into a proposed merger agreement with Aldi, under which the latter will acquire all outstanding SEG capital stock, which encompasses all grocery operations under the Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie banners.

This proposed merger is expected to be completed in the first half of this year. Until then, SEG will continue to operate its Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery stores as normally.

The company currently owns approximately 400 stores in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida.
