Von Maur Department Stores has announced plans to open its first anchor location in New Jersey, with an anticipated opening in fall 2027.
The store will be located at Freehold Raceway Mall, owned and operated by Macerich. The opening will mark Von Maur’s first presence in New Jersey and the US Northeast, introducing the retailer’s department store format to the Central New Jersey market.
“Freehold Raceway Mall is the area’s premier shopping destination, and we look forward to joining its vibrant retail community,” said Jim von Maur, president and fourth-generation leader of Von Maur Department Stores.
“As we continue to expand across the country, this new location represents an exciting milestone for our company.”
The site is located at the intersection of Route 9 and Business Route 33 and will serve shoppers from Monmouth County and surrounding areas.
The Freehold store is expected to employ approximately 150 full-time and part-time staff.

The store will span three levels and comprise approximately 164,000sqft, offering apparel, footwear, accessories and gifts.
Standard Von Maur services will be available, including personalised customer service, an interest-free charge card, a loyalty program, and complimentary gift wrapping and shipping.
Once the Freehold location opens, the store will operate 40 department stores across the US.
The company is also undertaking a multi-phase renovation program across its existing portfolio, with a total investment of $100 million planned over five years.
The New Jersey opening follows Von Maur’s recent expansion into North Dakota with the launch of a store in Fargo.
