McDonald’s Corporation has reported flat results for the fourth quarter amid a decline in the US market.
The company’s global comparable sales for the quarter ended December 31 were up 0.4 per cent year-on-year. Consolidated revenues were flat and systemwide sales rose 2 per cent.
US comparable sales were down 1.4 per cent, attributed to a decline in average check, partly offset by slightly positive comparable guest counts.
The international operated markets segment was up 0.1 per cent, with positive trends in most markets offset by negative performance in some such as the UK.
The international developmental licensed markets segment increased 4.1 per cent, reflecting growth led by the Middle East and Japan.
On the bottom line, consolidated operating income increased 2 per cent.
For the full year, global comparable sales slid 0.1 per cent, with the US up 0.2 per cent, international operated markets down 0.2 per cent and international developmental licensed markets down 0.3 per cent.
Consolidated revenues increased 2 per cent and systemwide sales rose 1 per cent.
