Is there anything more buzz-inducing than an invite-only club? That sense of exclusivity plays into our deepest desires to attain a certain status, and our fear of missing out if we don’t.  It’s how Facebook established itself in the early days, requiring users to have a university email address in order to sign up to its “elite” club. In fact, it wasn’t until 2006 that Facebook extended its remit beyond educational institutions to welcome anyone with a plain old registered email
