Foot Locker and Nike are bringing a new retail concept to South Los Angeles that combines sport, culture and community.

The Crenshaw Rec by Foot Locker will open on August 22 at 3222 W Slauson Ave, transforming the traditional sneaker store into a community-focused destination.

The store will feature an equipment room, an open gym, creative workspaces, and a community resource centre, as well as products from Nike, Jordan Brand, and Converse.

The merchandise mix has been tailored to the neighbourhood, with exclusive ranges including a Crenshaw High School x Nike Team Shop collection and a capsule from Los Angeles designer Gavin Mathieu of Supervsn Studios.

“The Crenshaw Rec by Foot Locker reflects our commitment to investing in the communities that have shaped our brand and continue to move sneaker culture forward,” said Brett O’Brien, SVP, chief marketing officer at Foot Locker.

“Together with Nike and respected voices across Crenshaw, we’re proud to create a destination that honors the neighborhood’s rich legacy while inspiring the next generation through sport, culture, and community.”

Local culture is also central to the concept. The Marathon Brand, founded by the family of late Los Angeles rapper Nipsey Hussle, is among the community partners involved in the project. Local businesses and entrepreneurs will be given opportunities to participate through pop-ups and collaborations.

Foot Locker will also launch its Crenshaw Striper Program, creating local employment opportunities and involving residents in the store experience.

Beyond retail, the location will host music academies, run clubs, host barber events, and offer other community programming.

The opening will feature a community swap meet and 3-on-3 basketball tournament, reinforcing the store’s role as a gathering place.
