Convenience store operator Buc-ee’s plans to open its first location in North Carolina by May as part of its ongoing expansion.

The company operates a hybrid model combining a convenience store, quick-service restaurant and roadside retail destination.

Plans for the North Carolina site will include gas pumps and more than 20 electric vehicle charging stations.

The 75,400sqft development was approved following a unanimous vote by the Mebane City Council, which granted the required rezoning and special-use permit.

Reagan Gural, president and CEO of the Alamance Chamber, said the company’s arrival is expected to deliver jobs, increased local revenue and broader economic benefits for the region.

“A strong presence from a business such as Buc-ee’s will expand the current economy, grow opportunities for local businesses and improve quality of life in Alamance County,” Gural said.

In recent years, the Texas-based retailer has accelerated its expansion beyond its home state.

Last year, it opened its first Virginia location and broke ground on its first Arizona store in Goodyear, as well as a new site in Huber Heights, Ohio. Additional openings are also planned across the Southeast and Midwest in Tennessee.

Founded in 1982, Buc-ee’s operates more than 50 stores, including 35 locations across Texas, with a growing footprint across multiple US states.
