The casual dining chain Smokey Bones has ceased all operations nationwide, as its ailing parent, Fat Brands, goes through Chapter 11 restructuring.
The shutdown from April 28 affects all remaining restaurant locations across multiple states, including Rhode Island, New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Ohio.
The chain, which specializes in barbecue and wings, was acquired by Fat Brands in September 2023 for approximately $30 million.
Twin Hospitality Group conducted an efficiency review of Fat Brands in September last year, resulting in the initial closure of 15 underperforming units. At one point the chain had more than 100 stores.
Fat Brands and its subsidiary, Twin Hospitality Group, entered Chapter 11 in February.
Fat Brands also owns Fatburger, Fazoli’s, Johnny Rockets, Twin Peaks, Great American Cookies, Ponderosa, Elevation Burger, Round Table Pizza and Marble Slab Creamery.
