Village Super Market plans to appoint John J Sumas as CEO and Nicholas Sumas as president and chairman of the board, effective December 13.

John and Nicholas have been serving as the company’s directors since 2009 and as co-presidents since 2018.

The new appointments come as CEO and interim chairman Robert Sumas is set to step down on December 13.

Robert will remain to be employed in the company as a senior adviser to assist in the transition of duties. He also plans to continue to serve the company as a member of the board of directors.

Meanwhile, the board said it will not fill the vacancy resulting from the passing of William Sumas last July 4.

This reduces the number of members on the board of directors from 10 to nine, effective immediately.

Village Super Market operates 30 ShopRite stores in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.

It also operates four Gourmet Garage markets and four Fairway Market stores in New York City.
