Target is expanding its price cuts as it responds to cautious consumer spending amid rising living costs, including inflation and higher fuel costs.

The retailer will lower prices on nearly 2000 additional home, apparel, and accessories items, building on more than 10,000 products it discounted last year.

The latest reductions span discretionary categories, including apparel, footwear, and home goods, as Target seeks to remain competitive while shoppers continue to adjust spending habits.

In apparel and footwear, selected items will be priced 20  per cent or more below last year’s levels. Women’s long-sleeve tees, for example, will now start at $12, down from $15, while the average price of women’s shoes has fallen to $35 from $40 last year.

Target has also refreshed its bedding assortment, with prices reduced by an average of 15  per cent. Threshold queen comforters are now priced at $69, down from $89, while Room Essentials queen comforters have dropped to $40 from $50.

Cara Sylvester, EVP and CMO of Target, said the initiative aims to offer more affordable options for its customers, especially for seasonal purchases.

“Guests are looking for great products at an incredible value, and that’s an important and important part of what we aim to deliver every day,” she said.
