Tokyo Lifestyle reported a small net loss in the first half of fiscal 2026, despite strong revenue growth.

Sales reached $190.4 million, a 94.3 per cent increase from $98.0 million in the same period last year. This growth was driven by strong performance in franchise and wholesale channels, as well as solid results from company-owned stores.

However, gross margins declined to 8.3 per cent from 12.4 per cent, reflecting the impact of promotional pricing and a higher proportion of lower-margin products. Operating income rose modestly to $3.6 million, but after accounting for taxes and other charges, the company reported a net loss of $900,000.

Revenue from directly-operated physical stores increased 47.1 per cent to $10.2 million for the six months ended September 30, up from $6.9 million a year earlier.

Growth was driven primarily by higher sales in Hong Kong, supported by rebounding tourist numbers, enhanced face-to-face promotions, optimised pricing and promotions, a wider range of SKUs, and the addition of a new store.

Expansion in North America also contributed, with the company operating five stores in the US and two in Canada, compared with four and one, respectively, in the prior year.

Principal accounting and financial officer Youichiro Haga said the results reflect operational strength, highlighting improved inventory management and faster receivables turnover.

“We believe that stronger revenue and gross margin performance will lay a solid foundation for a sustained recovery in overall profitability,” he said.

Looking ahead, Tokyo Lifestyle plans to strengthen its financial position through disciplined cost management, support its global expansion strategy, and deliver long-term value to shareholders.

Headquartered in Japan, Tokyo Lifestyle is a retailer and wholesaler of Japanese beauty and health products, sundries, luxury items, electronics, collectible cards, and trendy toys.

The company operates across Hong Kong, Japan, North America, Thailand, Vietnam, the UK, and Australia, selling through directly-operated stores, online platforms, and franchise and wholesale channels.
