Target Corporation has announced changes to its leadership team after recording sales growth for the holiday season.
The company’s sales in November and December combined grew 2.8 per cent, while comparable sales were up 2 per cent.
The increase was driven by record-high sales during Black Friday and Cyber Monday and a 3 per cent growth in traffic.
The company said there was a meaningful acceleration in discretionary categories during the holiday timeframe, most notably in apparel and toys, as well as continued strength in beauty and frequency categories.
“Our team delivered continued traffic growth and better-than-expected holiday-season performance, thanks to their focus on serving guests with an inspiring, easy, and joyous shopping experience,” said Brian Cornell, chairman and CEO.
The company now expects comparable sales growth of approximately 1.5 per cent in the fourth quarter, compared to the modest 0.3 per cent increase in the third quarter.
In addition, Target has announced the retirement of executive VP and chief stores officer Mark Schindele after 25 years with the company. Adrienne Costanzo, senior VP of store operations, was appointed as the next chief stores officer.
Brett Craig, executive VP and chief information officer, will retire after 15 years at Target. Prat Vemana, executive VP, chief digital and product officer, will take on the role of chief information and product officer.
Sarah Travis, senior VP of Roundel and social commerce, will be promoted to executive VP and chief digital and revenue officer.
