Starbucks will invest $100 million to establish a support office in Nashville, expanding its presence in the southeastern US.
The move is part of the company’s ‘Back to Starbucks’ strategy, which focuses on operations and includes plans to expand its domestic store network.
In an internal message to US employees, CPO Sara Kelly said the Nashville site will support the company’s global and North America headquarters in Seattle. Starbucks expects to create about 2000 support roles at the site over five years.
The roles will include new positions tied to growth, functions brought in-house from contractors and service providers, and in some cases the relocation of teams from Seattle to Nashville.
Kelly said some technology teams will move to Nashville, while others will remain in Seattle.
“Partners whose roles are being relocated will hear directly from their technology leaders,” she said. “We’ll support them as they make the decision on what’s right for them.”
The company said Nashville offers proximity to suppliers, access to a talent pool, including in technology, and alignment with where it expects coffeehouse growth in the southern and eastern US. Starbucks is also continuing its in-office work approach, with teams based in the same location.
It plans to open a temporary office in the Gulch area before moving to a permanent site at Peabody Union in downtown Nashville. Starbucks plans to occupy the full building and complete the move next year.
The company said it will provide updates in the coming months and support employees affected by the changes as it implements the ‘Back to Starbucks’ strategy.
