Under Armour says its second-quarter exceeded earlier outlook, with signs of renewed momentum in North America, which CEO Kevin Plank says is a result of its turnaround strategy.

“The response from consumers and partners reflects this execution, driven by stronger product, sharper storytelling, and a renewed belief in the Under Armour brand,” he said.

For the quarter that ended September 30, revenue declined 5 per cent to $1.3 billion. North American revenue fell 8 per cent to $792 million, while international revenue grew 2 per cent to $551 million.

Within international markets, sales increased 12 per cent in EMEA, fell 14 per cent in Apac, and rose 15 per cent in Latin America.

By channel, wholesale revenue decreased 6 per cent to $775 million, and direct-to-consumer sales slipped 2 per cent to $538 million.

Revenue from company-owned stores remained flat, while e-commerce sales declined 8 per cent, representing 28 per cent of the total direct-to-consumer business.

Across categories, apparel revenue dropped 1 per cent to $936 million, footwear declined 16 per cent to $264 million, and accessories fell 3 per cent to $113 million.

Operating income was $17 million, or $53 million on an adjusted basis, excluding restructuring and transformation charges.

However, the company posted a net loss of $19 million, with adjusted net income at $15 million.

Under Armour says it will continue to execute its restructuring plan, first announced last year, aimed at improving financial and operational efficiency.

Looking ahead, the company expects next year’s fiscal revenue to decline 4 to 5 per cent, including high-single-digit decreases in North America and Asia-Pacific, and a high-single-digit increase in EMEA. Adjusted operating income is projected between $90 million and $105 million.

“With our strategy, operating model, and go-to-market approach firmly in place, we’re staying disciplined and focused,” Plank concluded.
