Shake Shack has posted an increase in revenue but flat comparable sales for the first fiscal quarter, a slowdown compared to the previous period.

The chain’s total revenue rose 10.5 per cent to $320.9 million for the quarter ended March 26, and system-wide sales increased 10.4 per cent to $489.4 million.

Meanwhile, same-store sales were up only 0.2 per cent, compared to 4.3 per cent increase in last year’s fourth quarter and the 3.6 per cent full-year growth.

On the bottom line, operating income rose from breakeven from the year-ago period to $2.8 million, and net income increased from $2.2 million to $4.5 million.

During the quarter, the company opened four new company-operated Shacks and seven licensed Shacks. It now has more than 585 locations system-wide, including over 375 in the US.
