Columbia Sportswear returned to profit in the second quarter as growth in its international business helped offset weaker sales at home.

However, net sales rose by just 2 per cent to $614.4 million from $605.2 million a year earlier.

Operating income reached $30.9 million, compared with an operating loss of $23.6 million in the same period last year, while net income improved to $26.6 million from a net loss of $10.2 million.

Chairman and CEO Tim Boyle said the company continues to see “encouraging signs of progress” from its Accelerate Growth Strategy, particularly through the strong performance of its footwear range, one of the initiative’s strategic pillars.

The Accelerate Growth Strategy was launched by the company last year to strengthen the Columbia brand by attracting younger and more active consumers.

For the first half of 2026, net sales rose 1 per cent to $1.39 billion from $1.38 billion a year earlier. Operating income increased to $72.9 million from $22.9 million, while net income climbed to $60.9 million from $32.1 million.

Looking ahead, Boyle said the company is more cautious about the second half as geopolitical pressures continue to create uncertainty.

“While our first half operating results have been in line to slightly favorable overall as compared to our expectations at the start of the year, our outlook for the second half has incrementally moderated, largely due to external macroeconomic headwinds,” he added.
