Pizza Hut has named Kalen Thornton as global chief brand officer, effective June 10.

Prior to the new role, Thornton served at PepsiCo North America as VP of sports, entertainment, and gaming and as chief marketing officer for Gatorade.

He also previously held the position of VP of men’s brand management at Nike North America.

“With a strong record of building celebrated global brands, Kalen is the right leader to help us connect a new generation through the joy of pizza,” said Aaron Powell, Pizza Hut Division CEO.

In addition to Thorton’s appointment, the company also named Melissa Friebe as chief marketing officer for Pizza Hut US, succeeding Lindsay Morgan.

Before joining the pizza chain, Friebe served Taco Bell for more than seven years, with chief brand strategy officer being her latest position.

Friebe will report to incoming president Carl Loredo.
