Papa Johns International reported that its annual revenue increased last year – citing an additional week of operations and higher franchise royalties.

The pizza chain’s revenue increased 1.6 per cent to $2.14 billion while attributable net income rose 21.1 per cent to $82.1 million.

The company noted a $41 million contribution from the additional week, $31 million from domestic company-owned restaurants, a $3 million increase in North American franchise royalties and a $24 million increase in international revenues primarily related to the UK franchisee acquisitions.

Papa Johns opened a net 208 new outlets during the year, with 57 in North America and 151 abroad.

“Papa Johns finished 2023 with a solid fourth quarter and achieved record system-wide sales for the year, marking this as our fourth consecutive year of positive North America comparable restaurant sales,” said Papa Johns president and CEO Rob Lynch.

“We are also making progress on our International transformation initiatives, which include optimizing our UK business model. We continue to see sequential improvement in our UK sales, with UK franchisees reporting their second consecutive quarter of positive comparable sales in the fourth quarter.”
