Ollie’s marks 500 store milestone with Iowa debut

Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Holdings has opened a store in Iowa City, marking its 500th store and the 30th state it has a presence in.

Ollie’s is America’s largest retailer of closeout merchandise and excess inventory, offering a wide selection of brand-name products at up to 70 per cent off.

John Swygert, president and CEO of Ollie’s, described this as a “major milestone”, adding the company continues its commitment to give back to the communities.

“Here in Iowa City, we are thrilled to continue that commitment with a donation of $10,000 to benefit Children’s Miracle Network and the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital as part of our grand opening celebration,” Swygert said.

Ollie’s has partnered with Children’s Miracle Network since 2007, raising more than $4 million dollars to support 90 children’s hospitals nationwide.

The company said it creates 50-60 new jobs in the local community with each new store.

Nationwide, Ollie’s employs more than 11,000 associates and plans to open 50-55 locations each year until it reaches its goal of 1050 stores.
