Luxury conglomerate LVMH has acquired a minority stake in Berlin-based eyewear brand Mykita through its eyewear manufacturing subsidiary, Thelios.

While the financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, both companies confirmed that Mykita will retain full independence in its strategic and creative processes.

“This minority investment will strengthen Mykita’s position as a truly global design and manufacturing brand. Its unconventional spirit and dedication to design excellence will continue to drive innovation and reshape the future of eyewear,” said the companies in a joint statement.

Founded in 2003, Mykita is known for its design innovation and sustainability efforts. The brand has pioneered advancements in eyewear materials, including using its proprietary “Mylon” material through 3D printing.

In 2022, Mykita became the first in the industry to transition fully to “Acetate Renew,” a bio-based plate material, and use more than 90 per cent recycled steel in its stainless steel frames.

All of the brand’s eyewear is crafted in-house in-house in Berlin, consolidating design, manufacturing, and administration under one roof.

LVMH has been expanding its presence in the eyewear sector, underscored by establishing its 18,000sqm factory in Longarone, Italy, which serves as a state-of-the-art production hub.

Thelios designs, manufactures, and distributes eyewear for several LVMH brands, including Dior, Fendi, Celine, Givenchy, and Loewe, as well as Barton Pereira and Vuarnet.
