Kent Outdoors has sold Kona Bikes to a group led by Kona’s original founders, Dan Gerhard and Jake Heilbron, for an undisclosed sum.
Kent executive chairman Lee Belitsky said the sale is an important element of the company’s recent strategic review, allowing it to focus on and invest in core growth brands.
Gerhard said he and Heilbron will once again lead and rebuild Kona. “We’re well positioned in the market and will continue to offer high-quality bikes with the distinct design and feel that riders expect from Kona,” he added.
Gerhard and Heilbron, along with Jimbo Holmstrom, founded Kona Bikes in 1988 in Vancouver, Canada. The founders sold the company to Kent Outdoors in January 2022.
Kona is currently headquartered in Washington, with Canadian distribution offices in Vancouver and European distribution offices in Monaco.
