Gentle Monster opens pop-up stores with Maison Margiela

Gentle Monster has partnered with Maison Margiela to launch pop-up spaces around the world.

The collaboration of the two businesses creates a new ‘Créature,’ which is represented through a campaign using Katerina Jebb’s high-resolution scanning technology.

The Maison Margiela x Gentle Monster popup will visit seven cities worldwide: Seoul, New York, London, Singapore, and three cities in China. In the seven selected locations, a limited number of customised cushions will be distributed to consumers on a first-come, first-served basis.

The genderless series, which comprises sunglasses and eyeglasses, was created by creative director John Galliano and Gentle Monster and is based on concepts developed in the Artisanal atelier. It includes 11 designs in a variety of colourways.

At the pop-up, Gentle Monster reinterprets Maison Margiela’s signature elements, such as the black mask, unfinished thread, and fabric details.

The eyewear collaboration is available at the two brands’ on/offline stores, and selected global resellers.

Last year, IICombined, the owner of South Korean eyewear Gentle Monster, injected US$15 million into Chinese AR technology startup Nreal.
