Hasbro’s former chairman and CEO Alan G Hassenfeld has passed away at the age of 76.

Born on November 16, 1948, Hassenfeld assumed the role of CEO in 1989. He then expanded Hasbro’s influence during his tenure, acquiring brands like Tonka, Parker, and Kenner, and bringing well-known products such as Monopoly, Play-Doh, and Nerf under the company’s umbrella.

“He devoted himself to making the world a better place. He was happiest when he was helping people,” said Alfred J Verrecchia, former Hasbro chairman and CEO.

“He wasn’t afraid to put his name and reputation on the line for something he believed.”

In 1994, he helped found Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, donating $2.5 million of his own money. In 2008, he established the Hassenfeld Family Initiatives, a foundation that supported efforts in public health, education, and social justice, both in the US and internationally.

Hassenfeld also played a role in local politics. He founded Right Now!, a Rhode Island-based campaign finance and ethics reform group, and encouraged employee volunteerism at Hasbro through programs like ‘Team Hasbro’ and ‘Global Day of Joy’.

The Toy Association described him as a leader who consistently used his influence to advocate for children.
