Circular fashion marketplace Depop has appointed Peter Semple as its CEO, effective August 1.

“After six years at Depop, I’m excited to permanently step into the CEO role and lead the business through this next phase of growth,” said Semple.

“My journey here, from building our brand as CMO to guiding the company as interim CEO, has been a privilege.

“Together with our incredible team, I am committed to accelerating our mission to make fashion circular.”

Semple has held the position of interim CEO at Depop since May, after having spent six years at the company in various roles, including chief brand officer and then CMO.

Before this, he spent seven years at Google’s creative lab, where he developed global-scale marketing campaigns and targeted cultural and community initiatives.

“During Peter’s time as interim CEO, he demonstrated not only a proven ability to lead and inspire teams, but also showed his dedication to the Depop mission and its community,” said Etsy CEO Josh Silverman.

“He brings a strong understanding of Depop’s position in culture and resale, and we couldn’t be more confident in his vision for the future.”
