Aldi plans to open more than 180 new stores in the US as the budget supermarket chain enters its 50th year in the country.

By the end of this year, Aldi aims to increase its store count to 2800, with a longer-term goal of reaching 3200 stores by 2028. The company says the expansion comes in response to a record 17 million new customers last year.

“One in three US households shopped at Aldi this past year, and in 2026, we’re focused on making it even easier for customers to shop our aisles first,” Atty McGrath, CEO of Aldi US, said.

“That means bringing Aldi to even more neighborhoods, upgrading our website and planning additional distribution centers to keep our shelves stocked with the products our shoppers love.”

The supermarket will enter its 40th state, Maine, this year and plans to add more than 50 stores to Denver and Colorado Springs, 10 in Phoenix, and to double its store count in Las Vegas.

It will also convert 80 Southeastern Grocers sites to Aldi supermarkets after acquiring the company in 2024.

Three more distribution centers will be added in Florida, Arizona, and Colorado. Aldi expects all three to be operational by 2029.

“As we look ahead to our next 50 years in the US, we’ll continue to earn shopper loyalty by staying true to what’s made Aldi successful: keeping things simple and delivering real value,” McGrath added.
