Ace Hardware’s revenue declined 0.4 per cent to $9.13 billion last year as sales fell across several categories.

The company’s attributable net income fell 4.6 per cent to $326.1 million. Wholesale revenue slid 0.3 per cent to $8.3 billion while retail revenue dipped 1.4 per cent to $786.4 million.

The firm noted a revenue decrease in many departments, with plumbing, grilling, and outdoor power equipment experiencing the largest declines.

In the fourth quarter, revenue declined 3.0 per cent to $2.12 billion but the company swung to a net income of $2.1 million.

“While fourth-quarter revenue was disappointing, the miss is entirely a result of lower sales on winter goods as a result of a particularly mild December,” said Ace Hardware president and CEO John Venhuizen.

Ace Hardware ended the year with 5870 stores globally after opening 222 stores and shutting 98.
