New York-based AS Beauty is winding down two of its makeup brands, Mally Beauty and Cover FX, amid industry-wide headwinds, including tariffs.
The two brands announced the closure on their respective Instagram accounts, both citing new challenges facing the beauty industry, such as tariffs and market shifts.
Mally Beauty was launched in 2005 by celebrity makeup artist Mally Roncal and gained its popularity through TV retail. AS Beauty acquired the brand from its previous owner, Beauty Visions, in 2021.
“We’re so thankful for the incredible journey we’ve shared with our Mally Beauty community. Together, we’ve built a brand that celebrates confidence, joy, and beauty that lasts,” the brand wrote in its closing notice.
Cover FX was founded in 1999 with the aim of creating high-performance, skin-friendly makeup that addressed sensitivities. AS Beauty bought the business from L Catterton in 2022.
“Thank you for more than 20 years of love, loyalty, and beauty without compromise,” the brand wrote on Instagram. “While this chapter closes, our gratitude for this community and the impact we’ve made together will always remain.”
Customers can still buy products from Mally Beauty on QVC and Amazon and Cover FX on its website and Amazon, while supplies last.
Founded in 1999, AS Beauty also owns other brands, including Laura Geller, Bliss, and Julep Beauty.
