Zumiez bounces back into profit in third quarter

Apparel and footwear retailer Zumiez swung to a net income amid higher sales in the third quarter ended November 2.

The company’s net income totaled $1.2 million while net sales rose 2.9 per cent to $222.5 million.

“We experienced strong gains in our apparel and footwear categories as consumers have responded favorably to our refined product assortments and enhanced customer engagement tactics,” said Rick Brooks, Zumiez CEO.

“Our results during back-to-school and the start of the holiday season represent solid progress toward these goals and we are committed to building on our momentum to deliver greater value for our shareholders next year and over the long term.”

The company opened six new stores in the fiscal year to date, with one more store planned for the fiscal fourth quarter. Three of these stores are in North America, two in Europe, and two in Australia.

For the fiscal fourth quarter, Zumiez forecasts net sales of $284 million to $288 million. In the first 31 days of the quarter, the company witnessed sales increase 10 per cent from the year-ago period.
