Wawa plans to open 40 stores in Kentucky over the next decade

Convenience store chain Wawa is planning to open 40 stores in Kentucky over the next eight to 10 years, with the first store locations to be inaugurated in mid-FY25.

Wawa has 15 sites under contract across Boone, Bullitt, Fayette, Hardin, Jefferson, Jessamine, Oldham, Scott, Shelby and Warren Counties. The company is working on the permitting and approval requirements for these locations.

The family-owned firm is targeting to open up to 10 stores in Kentucky in FY25, and five additional stores per year starting in FY26.

“We are excited to welcome Wawa to Louisville, and we look forward to working with them as they open multiple locations across our city,” said Louisville mayor Craig Greenberg, noting that Wawa’s customer base is built around its signature hoagies, freshly brewed coffee, and hand-crafted smoothies.

“As we get closer to our grand openings in FY25, we will be sharing even more details on our growth in Kentucky and connecting with more customers, communities, partners and nonprofit organizations that together make this such an incredible region to be a part of,” said Joe Collins, director of store operations at Wawa.
