Best Buy has reported solid sales growth for the second quarter, primarily driven by the strong performance of its US business.

The company’s comparable sales increased 4.1 per cent year-on-year during the quarter ended August 2.

The domestic segment saw comparable sales grow 4.5 per cent, with growth recorded across most categories. The largest drivers include computing, home theater, and emerging categories such as AI glasses and trading cards, partially offset by a decline in the traditional gaming category.

Meanwhile, international comparable sales slid 1.8 per cent.

CEO Corie Barry said the company outperformed expectations during the quarter.

“We drove growth across almost all our major product categories as well as continued strong performance in our Best Buy Ads and Marketplace initiatives,” he said.

Barry is set to step down from the CEO position at the end of October, with Jason Bonfig taking over.

The company has raised its outlook for the full year, expecting comparable sales to increase 1.9-3 per cent, compared to the prior guidance of down 1 per cent to up 1 per cent.
