Ross Stores has named James Conroy as its new CEO, succeeding Barbara Rentler, effective February 2.

Conroy will initially join the discount store company on December 2 as CEO-elect and as a member of the board of directors, reporting to executive chairman Michael Balmuth.

Upon assuming the CEO role, he will report directly to the company’s full board of directors.

Currently, Conroy is the CEO of Boot Barn, a position he has since 2012. Prior to that, he held co-CEO, president and COO roles at Claire’s.

Meanwhile, Rentler will transition as CEO and vice chair to an advisory role and will play a significant part in the ongoing implementation of merchandising strategies through March 31, 2027.
