Papa John’s recorded 1 per cent year-on-year growth in restaurant sales at $1.22 billion in the first quarter.
North American comparable sales were down 3 per cent, while international comparable sales were up 3 per cent compared to last year.
The company’s total revenue was up 1 per cent to $518 million. However, net income dropped from $15 million in the first quarter of last year to $9 million this year.
The company reported an EBITDA of $50 million this year, down from $61 million last year.
Papa John’s opened 47 new restaurants, with 18 new restaurants in North America and 29 new restaurants opened globally.
The company expects an increase in total sales of between 2 per cent and 5 per cent for the remainder of the year, with an adjusted EBITDA of between $200 million and $220 million.
The company plans to open between 85 to 115 restaurants in North America and 180 to 200 restaurants internationally over the rest of the financial year.
