Nike is bringing back its outdoor-performance brand, All Conditions Gear (ACG), with a focus on trail running, hiking, and exploration.
The rekindled collection includes trail-tuned footwear such as the flagship ACG Ultrafly and rugged ACG Zegama, as well as apparel like the Radical AirFlow racing top and Lava Loft down jacket. Nike’s Trail footwear range will also integrate into ACG.
ACG began four decades ago in 1978 when the sports brand provided trainers to climbers Rick Ridgeway and John Roskelly prior to their hike to K2 basecamp, the second-highest summit in the world.
“A lot of it was off-trail,” recalled Rick Ridgeway, one of the climbers in the photo and a leading American alpinist of the era. “You can imagine they were pretty trashed (the training shoes) by the time we got there.”
Launched as a standalone brand in 1989 under the leadership of mountaineer Kirk Richardson, ACG offered a line of footwear and apparel for athletes who ran, hiked, climbed, and explored the outdoors.
The range was later folded into Nike’s core business and discontinued as a standalone line in the mid-1990s.
Scott LeClair, VP and GM for ACG, said the relaunch is part of the brand’s commitment to support outdoor athletes.
“ACG has the foundation to shape the future of outdoor performance while pushing into spaces that feel fresh and unexpected,” he added. “It is going to be a fun ride.”
