Mexican dining chain Chi Chi’s is poised to make a comeback in the US next year after nearly two decades.

Michael McDermott, son of the chain’s founder, will operate the reopened location, as part of his agreement with Hormel Foods, which currently owns the Chi Chi’s trademarks.

Founded by Marno McDermott and former Green Bay Packers player Max McGee in 1975, Chi Chi’s reached over 200 locations nationwide in the late 20th century. The chain ceased operations in the market in 2004 after undergoing several changes in ownership.

Subsequently, Michael spearheaded the revitalization of his family’s restaurant chain.

“We have seen the impact our restaurant has had on individuals and families across the country and believe there is a strong opportunity to bring the brand back in a way that resonates with today’s consumer – an updated dining experience with the same great taste and Mexican flavor,” said McDermott.
