Department store chain Macy’s has confirmed the shutdown of 66 stores as part of its Bold New Chapter strategy to return to profitability.

Macy’s will close one store in Arizona; nine stores in California; two in Colorado; eight stores in Florida; three stores in Georgia; one in Idaho; one in Illinois; one in Louisiana; one in Massachusetts; two in Maryland; four in Michigan; two in Minnesota; two in Missouri; one in New Jersey; nine in New York; two in Ohio; two in Oregon; four in Pennsylvania; one in Tennessee; six in Texas; one in Virginia; three in Washington.

The company said that the majority of the listed stores will be closed during the first quarter.

“Closing any store is never easy, but as part of our Bold New Chapter strategy, we are closing underproductive Macy’s stores to allow us to focus our resources and prioritize investments in our go-forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service,” said Tony Spring, Macy’s chairman and CEO.

The strategy involves closing about 150 unproductive Macy’s stores over a three-year period and investing in its 350 go-forward stores through fiscal 2026.

Earlier, the company reported its net sales decreased 2.4 per cent to $4.7 billion for the 13 weeks ended November 2.
