Korean stationery and lifestyle retailer Artbox has entered the US market with a pop-up store on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, using Southern California as the starting point for its broader expansion in the country.
“LA is a natural starting point for Artbox’s journey, bringing together culture, creativity, and diverse communities,” said Kevin Cho, head of global business at Artbox.
“This pop-up marks an exciting first step as we introduce Artbox’s unique take on Korean lifestyle retail to American consumers.”
The Los Angeles store is designed as an interactive journey through the Artbox brand, with a series of zones combining shopping and entertainment.
Visitors can explore original characters and merchandise, including the brand’s alien character Lazywag, as well as stationery, accessories, and collectibles.
The pop-up also taps into the global popularity of Korean culture with an experience featuring K-pop group Illit, interactive photo opportunities, and other K-culture elements.
Another area allows shoppers to customize items such as journals, phones, and accessories, drawing on Korea’s popular decorating culture.
A gacha experience rounds out the shopping journey, with the entire visit designed to take around 40 to 45 minutes.
Artbox said the pop-up will also feature products that are regularly refreshed, giving shoppers new items and experiences to discover.
The US launch extends a retail business that began as a stationery store in Seoul in 1984. Artbox has since expanded into home and living, beauty, fashion, gifts, food and beverage, and digital products.
The retailer now operates 222 stores across South Korea, offering more than 20,000 SKUs.
