Mike’s Subs, the franchisor behind Jersey Mike’s, is set to expand the brand into Europe through a franchise agreement with JM Submarines.
The first location is expected to open early this year, with plans to roll out up to 400 stores across the UK and Ireland.
Jersey Mike’s was founded in 1975 when chairman Peter Cancro purchased the original Mike’s Subs store in Point Pleasant at the age of 17. Since then, the brand has grown into one of the largest fast-casual restaurant chains in the US.
The company currently has about 3200 locations across North America.
“I’ve lived and breathed this brand my entire life, starting when I worked at the original Mike’s Subs as a teenager,” said Cancro. “To now bring Jersey Mike’s to the UK and Ireland is incredibly exciting. I see strong potential in markets that value quality, authenticity and community.”
Jersey Mike’s CEO, Charlie Morrison, said the company could not have chosen a stronger partner to lead its European expansion.
“Peter built this brand from the ground up, growing it from a single Jersey Shore store to thousands of locations,” Morrison said.
“We are thrilled to have him lead our first expansion into Europe as we enter an important new chapter for the business.”
