Jack in the Box is returning to Chicago for the first time in 40 years with eight planned openings and more than 125 targeted locations in the area.

The company seeks to open the eight stores throughout next year.

The development will include traditional freestanding restaurants, end-caps with drive-thru, conversions of existing buildings, and dark kitchens.

This builds on the fast food chain’s expansion in new markets including Utah, Kentucky, Arkansas, Montana, Wyoming, Michigan, Florida, Georgia, and internationally in Mexico.

“This strategic expansion into Chicago allows us to not only satisfy long-standing customer demand for our brand, but also to become a key member in the region’s thriving restaurant scene,” said Darin Harris, CEO of Jack in the Box.
