South America’s Ichu Peru restaurant is set to open in Hong Kong by late July.
The restaurant is being launched by prominent Limeño chef Virgilio Martinez Véliz, considered a leading proponent of his native Peruvian cuisine, in partnership with local hospitality operator Bulldozer Group. Véliz is the chef-owner of the noted Lima-based restaurant Central.
Located in H Queen, the Ichu Peru restaurant’s executive chef will be Sang Jeong, who has over three years’ experience working at Central. It will feature four distinct sections, including an island banquette, a colourful bar, a private dining room and an al fresco terrace. Portion sizes are expected to be generous.
“Lima and Hong Kong have a lot in common,” Martinez said in an interview with Forbes. “They are both vibrant cities and its people are obsessed with food. Our Ichu team looks forward to introducing authentic Peruvian cuisine to Hong Kong diners and becoming part of the city’s exciting food scene.”
Martinez said Ichu Peru will present “much-loved Peruvian dishes in a comfortable, welcoming, casual environment”.
“We want guests to feel as though they have been to Peru and experienced comfort food. It will celebrate Peru’s no-fuss dining culture with a menu that showcases traditional local ingredients and cooking techniques.”
