Norman Ferber, Ross Stores’ former chairman and CEO, has passed away at the age of 77.
Ferber was part of the company since its founding, holding several leadership roles, including president, COO, CEO, and chairman.
During his tenure, he helped transition the business from a six-store operation into a national off-price retail chain. After stepping down as CEO, he continued to serve in advisory and board roles for nearly 30 years.
“As a visionary leader, he helped shape Ross Stores’ long‑term strategy and growth, and his perspective was invaluable to both the Company and to me personally. I benefited greatly from his wisdom and friendship, and he will be deeply missed,” said Michael Balmuth, Ross Stores’ executive chairman.
In his memory, the company has donated to the Ross Cares Fund, an internal program that provides financial assistance to employees.
Additionally, the Ross Stores Foundation donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, an organization Ferber supported as a donor and volunteer.
The Moldaw-Zaffaroni Clubhouse in East Palo Alto has named its main Art and Academic Room in Ferber’s honor, acknowledging his long-term involvement with their academic programs.
