Planet Hollywood has reopened its restaurant in New York City, making its return with a $20 million investment.

The 20,000sqft location, located in Times Square, showcases a “cutting-edge, technology-driven” area that is intended to establish a new benchmark for the brand.

The new Planet Hollywood has a 360-degree canopy of high-definition screens with more than 692 video tiles. Planet Hollywood claims diners will be transported to thematic worlds ranging from old Hollywood grandeur to future landscapes, thanks to 8K quality video surfaces scattered throughout each floor.

“We’re relaunching Planet Hollywood in Times Square not just as a restaurant but as an all-encompassing sensory experience that magnificently combines innovative technology with the unique flair of Hollywood,” said Robert Earl, founder and CEO of Planet Hollywood and Earl Enterprises.

“This venue is poised to deliver exceptional entertainment and dining in the spirit of New York’s celebrated theatrical grandeur.”

Founded in 1991, Planet Hollywood is a group of US movie-themed restaurants with locations in London, Los Angeles, and Orlando, Disney Springs. The movie-themed restaurant chain closed its New York branch in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Italian restaurant chain Zio’s has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, citing an economic slowdown driven by falling oil prices.
