Austrian bakery chain Martin Auer is making its US debut with a flagship store on Lafayette Street in New York’s SoHo district.

The flagship will span 3200sqft of ground floor retail space and 500sqft on the lower level.

Founded in Graz, Austria, Martin Auer is known for its artisanal breads, pastries and coffee across more than 50 locations in Europe.

“The SoHo launch is part of the brand’s global expansion strategy as we seek to offer a ‘European cafe experience’ to one of Manhattan’s busiest retail corridors,” says the company.

Alvarez and Marsal Property Solutions (AM-PS), a real estate advisory firm, arranged a 10-year lease for Martin Auer at 285 Lafayette Street. Kristen Fox of CBRE represented the bakery in the negotiations.

“Martin Auer is a brand that brings both quality and authenticity to the table, and 285 Lafayette offers the perfect environment for its New York debut,” said Max Swerdloff, senior analyst at AM-PS, who represented the landlord alongside Matthew Krell.

“This deal highlights the value of strategic repositioning and a curated tenant mix to elevate retail assets in legacy neighborhoods.”
