Restaurant Brands International (RBI) has reported solid sales growth in the third quarter, led by the outperformance at Burger King.

The company’s consolidated system-wide sales grew 6.2 per cent year-on-year during the quarter ended September 30, amid 3 per cent net restaurant growth.

Comparable sales rose 3.8 per cent, led by an 8.3 per cent increase at Burger King US.

Both Tim Hortons and Firehouse Subs posted a 1.5 per cent growth in comparable sales, while Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen slid 1.8 per cent. International comparable sales rose 3.9 per cent.

“At our Investor Day earlier this year, we highlighted what makes RBI a strong business – four iconic global brands, the ability to invest for long-term growth, and talented teams and franchisees around the world,” said CEO Josh Kobza.

“Those strengths are on display again this quarter, with over 3 per cent global comparable sales led by outperformance at Burger King and steady growth at International and Tim Hortons.”

On the bottom line, net income from continuing operations rose from $440 million a year ago to $704 million.

For the first nine months, comparable sales increased 3.6 per cent, and net income nearly doubled to $1.8 billion.

Last year, the company reported a 2.4 per cent uplift in comparable sales.
